Nylon & Polyester Flags
This is the choice that decides how a flag behaves and how long it lasts, and it is almost always presented as a quality ladder. It is not one.
Lightweight nylon flies in very little air. In a marina, an estuary or a light coastal breeze it looks alive when a heavier flag hangs dead, and it takes colour beautifully. It also wears faster in sustained wind.
Heavy woven polyester needs real air to fly properly and it takes a great deal more punishment — offshore, on a mooring in an exposed spot, or on a race set that is out every weekend, it lasts several times as long. We ask where the boat is before recommending either.
Owners, clubs and fleets. Tell us where the boat sails and we will make the same design up in the right cloth.
