Most custom boat flags are the wrong size, and everyone on the water can tell.

Why we exist

Flags get quoted as a rectangle of printed cloth, from suppliers who never ask what the flag is going on.

So a club orders one size for a fleet that ranges from twenty to fifty feet. A beautiful name flag arrives that cannot be read from another boat. And the hem at the fly is two rows of stitching, so it frays through in a fortnight of real wind.

A flag dies at the fly end

The hoist edge is held; the fly edge is free, and it flogs thousands of times an hour every hour the flag is up.

Four rows of stitching at the fly and a reinforced corner patch is the difference between a season and a fortnight. It costs almost nothing at the making stage and it is the first thing a cheap flag leaves out, because you cannot see it in a photograph.

Nylon or polyester is a wind decision

Lightweight nylon flies in almost no air, which is exactly what you want in a marina, an estuary or a light coastal breeze. It also wears faster in sustained wind.

Heavy woven polyester needs real air to fly properly and lasts several times longer offshore or on a race set that is out every weekend. Neither is the better cloth; we ask where the boat actually is.

Read from two sides, at distance, moving

A flag is read from another boat, usually against a bright sky, usually moving. That is a harder legibility problem than any printed sign.

We redraw for it — heavier letterforms, fewer words, real contrast instead of tone-on-tone — and we print so the design reads correctly from both sides rather than leaving one mirrored.

What we will not print

National flags and ensigns. Those are standardised and governed by usage conventions, and a made-to-order version of one is worse than none at all.

We make club burgees, owner and name flags, race and regatta sets and dressing lines — and if you need the other kind we will tell you where to buy it properly.

How we price

No dollar figures on this site. Price moves with size, cloth, finish, hoist and quantity, and it falls steeply at club and fleet volumes. Send the details and a real quote comes back the same day, with a lowest-price guarantee if you are already holding a cheaper one.
