Dressing a boat is a continuous line of small flags run bow to masthead to stern. What decides whether it looks right is spacing and the length of the run, and both have to be made to the boat rather than bought as a generic length.

So we make to a stated overall length, with the flags sewn into the line at an even spacing rather than clipped on, and both ends finished with a proper eye or a snap so it can be rigged quickly and stowed as one piece.

Clipped-on flags twist, tangle and come off. Sewn-in flags cannot, and the difference is obvious the first time a line is hoisted in any breeze at all.
